ABEOKUTA – The Governor of Ogun State, Prince Dapo Abiodun has explained why he had yet to hand over security patrol vehicles recently purchased to security personnel in the state.

The Governor who spoke with some journalists in Abeokuta said the lack of technological devices in the vehicles was the major reason security personnel have not taken possession of the vehicles.

He said the state government is fitting the vehicles with electronic devices before they were handed over adding that, there were no communication devices in the Vehicles with which the state Commissioner of Police can communicate with officers on the field.

He further said the delay in the distribution of the patrol vehicles to the security agencies in the state, was because the state government is busy putting in place comprehensive and statewide telecommunications network and tracking devices in them.

Recall that the Inspector-General of Police, Mohammed Adamu had on September 6, 2019, received and commissioned the vehicles for onward transmission to the Police Command in the State.

Governor Abiodun in his speech said the vehicles and motorcycles were to assist the Nigeria Police Force effectively combat crime, in Ogun State and environs, adding that his administration was determined to ensure peace within the state.

The Governor also boasted that his government would leave no stone unturned to achieve this, saying he was aware that investment in the state would grow only under a peaceful atmosphere and therefore security is paramount.

He said, “The reason why we have not handed over the security patrol vans is because we are fitting them with electric devices.

“There were no communication devices in those vehicles because the CP cannot communicate with other security agencies in the state. The CP cannot speak with DPO anywhere in this state.

“So, as a responsible government, we are busy putting in place a comprehensive and statewide telecommunications network and we are putting other tracking devices in those vehicles to be up to standard”.
