IBADAN – The Chairman of Oyo State Road Maintenance Agency, OYSROMA, Hon Kamil Akinlabi has restated the commitment of the state government to providing good roads and maintaining existing ones for the good of the people of the state even though the agency was in a deplorable state when it took over.

In an exclusive interview with ametrocopy in Ibadan the Oyo state capital, Hon Akinlabi said the leadership of the agency started from ground zero as there were neither equipment nor operational vehicles available for use despite funds allocated to the agency in the past administration.

“When His Excellency took over, we started from ground zero, there was nothing, no equipment, no operational vehicles, but the Governor swung into action to reposition the agency because of the critical role it plays in delivering the dividends of democracy to the people.”

“The Governor is handling it the way it should be handled and at the appropriate time, the public will be briefed about the outcome of the investigation, but the immediate concern of His Excellency is repositioning the agency”.

The OYSROMA Boss said the state government led by Engineer Seyi Makinde is keen on infrastructure development noting that the next one year will witness serious repair, rehabilitation, and construction of roads across the state.

“As per preparation for next year, His Excellency Governor Seyi Makinde, being an Engineer himself takes the issue of infrastructure very seriously. At the consultative meetings across the senatorial zones he just concluded, he made emphasis on how roads will be rehabilitated.”

“We are trying to revive our zonal offices, Oyo, Ogbomoso, Ibarapa, we want to have our men on ground so we can decentralize our activities, in doing that, we will be able to improve efficiency so that our people will start having the impact of motorable roads.

In the next one year, especially as the rainy season ceases, people in every part of Oyo state will start seeing efforts on their roads.”

Hon Kamil pointed out the lack of necessary equipment as a major challenge confronting the Agency presently and appealed to the people of Oyo state to exercise patience assuring that all the roads will be touched but at different times.

“One of the major challenges we have is the condition in which we met the place, imagine us meeting equipment in the office, we won’t be hiring equipment but we are constrained to hiring equipment and that means more spending. We appeal to our people to be patient we promise that all the roads will be touched but not at the same time.”
