IBADAN- The lawmaker representing Lagelu state constituency at the Oyo state House of Assembly, Hon Akintunde Olajide, popularly known as AKT, has said the local government election will hold immediately after the constitution of OYSIEC.

He also revealed Governor Makinde’s plans to ensure that a local government structure is in place to run the affairs of local councils in order to bring governance closer to the people.

“We can’t continue to use the HLAs like they always use, we can’t continue to make the place so dry because we all know that they don’t have the power to sign.”

“When the OYSIEC is constituted, we are looking at three months transition government.”

Hon Akintunde in an interview with ametrocopy.com lambasted ALGON Oyo for describing the plan by the state government to appoint Caretaker Chairmen to Local Governments as an invitation to anarchy.

He said the ALGON should be ashamed of itself for kicking against a government that has decided to do the needful as far as local government administration in the state is concerned.

“Why would someone be in government for eight years and not run an all-inclusive government. By all-inclusive government, I mean ensuring the local government is well set up, all board of parastatals is set up and all political positions have been occupied because the monthly allocation by the federal government has included all the positions, so if these posts are vacant, it means someone is siphoning the money meant for them.

For them to hold the local government ransom for those years is laughable.”

“The law is clear, the constitution and dissolution of OYSIEC should be by a two-thirds of the house ratified by the governor.”

“When the election is faulty, there is no reason for the so-called elected Chairmen to be in office in the first place, it was lawful for the house to dissolve the local government and the OYSIEC.”

According to the lawmaker, the group should desist from attacking Governor Seyi Makinde who he said is not responsible for the dissolution.

“The Governor is not even the one doing this, it is the law.”

While asking that the mental state of members of the ALGON be checked, he said they should be ashamed of themselves for contradicting the law and for benefitting from ‘a Kangaroo election’.

“They should be thankful that we have a lenient governor that allows everyone to talk.

Someone like that should be checked in a Psychiatric hospital, because I expect that he, the body of ALGON, should know the provision of the law better.”
