IBADAN – The Oyo state sustainable development goals office has launched the SDGs Secondary schools Club.
Speaking at the launch, the Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on SDGs, Hon Kunle Yusuf said the forum will help the students have a better understanding of the 2030 indicators of SDGs at a tender age. Hon Yusuf also said the club will enable the students serve as a watchdog particularly on students’ abuse and corrupt practices.
The SDGs boss said the secondary schools Club is SDGs Oyo project but will be institutionalized into the core ministry of education and supported by all stakeholders.
In his keynote address, Oyo state commissioner for Education, Science and Technology, Prof Dahud Kehinde Shangodoyin who lauded the initiative of Oyo SDGs said the program is in line with the objective of the education policies of the present administration under Governor Seyi Makinde which is to in-invent schools as a platform for learning and good character in order to engage the youths for productive and intellectual activities for sustainable development.
The chairman Oyo SUBEB, Dr. Nureni Adeniran who was represented by Executive secretary O.J Adeniyi called for the involvement of Oyo SUBEB as well as technical colleges in the state in the SDGs Secondary schools initiative.
In his remarks, the Special Assistant to the Governor on Better Education Service Delivery For All (BESDA) Moses Adeyanju commended Oyo SDGs saying the launch of the SDGs Secondary schools Club will showcase a better future for the younger ones.
Also speaking, the Special Assistant on youth, Kazeem Bolarinwa gave kudos to the initiative saying the students have a lot to benefit from the program.
The SDGs club of the Polytechnic Ibadan president, Ojo favor promised not to relent in their efforts in propagating the benefits of the club to the schools.
Representatives from STEP IITA, agency for youth development, SUBEB, and NYSC SDGs among others attended the launch.
