Ibadan – The umbrella Association of persons with disabilities in Oyo state -Joint National Association of Persons with Disabilities, Oyo State Chapter has disassociated itself from the protest carried out  against the Oyo State government on Monday,7th December,2020 by a  group of persons with disabilities in Oyo state.

Rising from a meeting which took place in Ibadan on Wednesday, cluster leaders of the major Disability groups that make up the umbrella body – JONAPWD, condemned the manner in which this unpopular group registered their protest.

The leaders in a release made available to ametrocopy.com signed by Funke Adegoke,  Chairman,Joint National Association of Persons with Disabilities, Babawale Oyayinka, Chairman,Nigerian Association of Physically Handicapped persons, Femi  Ajulo-  Ag. Chairman, Spinal Cord Injuries Association, O.O . Ojeniyi  Representative Nigerian Association for the Blind, Isaac Akinfenwa, Chairman,Nigerian Association for the Deaf, and Evangelist. Olu. Kayode JP, President,National Association of Persons with  Intellectual Disabilities, described the protest as unfortunate and embarrassing as they were not informed or carried along by the protesters.

The leaders noted that the protest could have snowballed into a violent one if some  unscrupulous elements had hijacked it in the name of sympathizing with people with disabilities.

While the Cluster Heads of persons with disabilities wish that the Teaching Service Commission had an upward review of the slots allotted to their people, they also apologized to the Executive Governor of the state Engineer Seyi Makinde and appreciate him  for his unflagging support and commitment to the course of persons with disabilities.

They urged the Teaching Service Commission ‘to see the Protest as the handiwork of a few disgruntled element who do not believe in using dialogue to resolve  issues’.
