Meet Yetunde Alabi, Nollywood rising star!

Majority of us are quite familiar with most of the beautiful faces in Nollywood, but, it is always refreshing to see new kids on the block who are gradually carving a niche and gaining territory for themselves in the make-believe world.
One of such is the delectable and sultry ‘ABAADI’ Producer and Act, Yetunde Alabi, fondly called ‘Eni bi Okan mi’. She opens up to A Metropolitan Ideas’ Copy on her journey into acting, her first movie, her fantasy, and her next big project.

Can you tell us a bit about yourself?

My name is Yetunde Mary Alabi, I was born in Plateau state Jos, my family relocated to Ibadan during my primary school days. I am from Osun state, Ila Orangun and my mum is from Ogbomosho.

When did you decide to go into acting?

Acting officially was in 2015, I was in my final year in school

When would you say you got your big break as an actress?

2020 when I released my movie ÀBÀADI (Oddity)

What was the first movie you featured in?

My first movie was MOBIYINA in 2015, I played sub -lead

How many movies have you featured in so far?

I have featured in a few projects, can’t really place figures

Do you star in English speaking movies as well?

No, I haven’t done anything yet in the English industry

How many years have you spent in the movie industry?

I started in 2015, so this is my 5th year ( though I was away for almost 2 YEARS in the 5years process)

Do you have any favourite male or female actors in Nollywood?

I have loads of favorites actors both male and female

What’s your best working experience so far?

When I was on the set of a new movie series OKOTO by LIBRATV coming out soon, I had the opportunity of meeting great actors and we all played different roles.

Who do you look up to as an actress/ filmmaker?

I have always admired Funke Akindele Bello, She’s more like my role model

What do you like to do in your free time?

I love hanging out with friends

What is your best holiday spot?

Maldives (winks and laughs) never been there

There have been allegations about promiscuity among actresses in the industry, what is your opinion on this?

Promiscuity is everywhere, in our worship places, workplaces not just the industry, and don’t be surprised it’s even worse in other fields, it’s just more announced in the movie industry because the spotlight is on them here.

Have you ever experienced any unprofessional behavior from men in the film making industry?

In my 5 years journey, No I haven’t experienced any unprofessional behavior from the men, don’t know about tomorrow.

What is your opinion about the film making industry in Nigeria?

If you notice in recent times the film industry here in Nigeria is getting better by the day, from movie quality to cast and crew, it’s getting better and I feel we are getting there gradually.

Asides from acting and producing, what else are you into?

Asides from acting, I am a makeup artist, I run a unisex fashionable store, I am also a fashion stylist.

Is there any interesting fact that people don’t know about you?

The most interesting fact people don’t know and won’t still believe is that deep down me I am a very shy person, but I maintain the other bright side, only a very few close people know this.

If you weren’t in the movie industry what other line of work would you have gone into?

I would have been a model if I wasn’t acting. I would still be doing something around TV life or the fashion world.

Who or what would you say inspires you?

God is my only inspiration, though I have people I look up to as well In the industry people like Funke Akindele, Kunle Afolayan, Nse Ekpe Etim, Genevieve Nnaji and so many others.

Is there a special someone in your life?

Everybody is special (Laughs)

Is there any actor or director you would like to work with?

I would love to work with Kemi Adetiba, Kunle Afolayan, and so many other Directors and actors

What is your favorite Nigerian movie of all time?

We have so many great movies at the moment in Nigeria, I love King of boys, Coming from Insanity, so many others and I have always loved Saworo-ide (the movie hasn’t left my childhood memories to date).

If there was anything you could change about the production of your latest release ‘Abaadi’ what would it be?

Honestly, ÀBÀADI came out just the way I wanted it, I won’t touch a thing on it even if I have to do it again.

Since the release of your new production, how would you describe the feedback from viewers?

Since the release of ÀBÀADI (oddity) the acceptance from viewers has been really awesome, I get phone calls and messages every day. I can’t even move freely without hearing people call me OYIN AYE MI or ENI BI OKAN MI . It’s been amazing.

Should we be expecting more movies from you soon?

Yes please, I am here now and fully into the movie industry

Are you working on any project at the moment?

Planning my next project already

What is your fantasy?

My fantasy is a funny one ( To get pregnant and not go through all the pregnancy hormonal changes ) just wake up next to my baby and still remain like this (rolls eye and laughs).

Do you have any advice for aspiring and new actors or filmmakers?

I am also a new actor, so my advice to my fellow ‘upcoming’ Actors or Actresses is God first, improve your craft every day, be opened to learning, and don’t you ever give up.
