An Ibadan Chief, Mogaji Babatunde Soares, has expressed a strong belief in playing constructive opposition in the development of Oyo state, and by extension, Nigeria as a nation, noting that it will be unprogressive to continually oppose and attack a government without proffering solutions because ‘you are in the opposition’.
In a chat with Ametrocopy, Chief Soares who is the Mogaji Oloyooyo Idikan, Ibadan, was reacting to the spate of killings in Oyo state, and the recent killing of the wife of a former Commissioner in the state, Mrs. Olayemi Odetomi.
Mrs. Odetomi was reportedly killed by armed robbers on Friday in her home in Ashi, Ibadan.
According to the British trained Chartered Administrator, ‘Criticism without proferring alternative solution amounts to destructive criticism which will be counterproductive as it would lead us nowhere. It is high time we adopted a paradigm shift in our approach to Oyo State politics and by extension national politics’.
The former Chairman, Governing Council, College of Agriculture and Technology, Igboora, said to be a progressive is not by political affiliation or profession by mouth but by the conduct emanating from the heart.
‘Politics is not supposed to be a means of livelihood but an avenue for solving societal challenges, he said.
He said the worsening insecurity is more of a burning national issue that must be tackled altruistically noting that it will require all stakeholders to close ranks and ensure a peaceful atmosphere before any form of politicking can even take place.
The legal luminary and a retired eminent Banker, while commiserating with the family of the APC Chieftain and former Oyo Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Peter Odetomi, on the gruesome murder of his wife by suspected robbers, called for concerted efforts at tackling the menace of insecurity in the state.
According to Chief Soares, while there might still be some options unexplored yet by the Governor Seyi Makinde-led administration in tackling insecurity, the measures already put in place should be supported and improved upon by all and sundry.
