Ibadan – Housing experts have called for improved collaboration between the government and private investors in the provision of mass housing for the benefit of the people.

Speaking on the latest edition of the real estate show produced by Metropolitan Ideas, The Landlords, on Beat FM Ibadan, Ayodeji Karim, the MD/CEO of Winchester Homes, and Bimbo Kolade, 2nd Vice President of National Institute of Building, NIOB, agreed on the need for an urgent intervention of the government in Urban renewal in Ibadan, the Oyo state capital.

In his submission, Karim, who believes Ibadan is a natural successor to Lagos in terms of population bemoaned the lack of necessary infrastructure in some major areas suitable for mass housing projects.

He listed some parts of Jericho, some parts of Bodija, Omi- Adio, Olomi Academy, Guru Maharaji ji Village, Moniya, and Kolapo Isola as some of the fast-rising suburbs in Ibadan where the provision of infrastructure and cheaper land prices will encourage migration of the people.

Also speaking, Kolade, who is the 2nd Vice President of NIOB, said housing professionals are studying what he described as Alternative Housing Finance, which enables low-income earners to build within meager means for future expansion.

While stressing the high cost of building as a bane to affordable housing, Kolade listed Elebu, Ajoda Town, and Ibadan-Oyo road as fast-rising suburbs in the city of Ibadan.
