Ibadan- Broadcast practitioners have been urged to always strive for professionalism in the discharge of their duties.
The Vice-Chancellor, Lead City Univesity, Professor Aderemi Adeyemo, gave the charge at the Inauguration of the Society of Nigerian Broadcasters, Oyo State Chapter, In Ibadan.
Professor Adeyemo, who was the Guest Lecturer at the event said the only thing that will separate members of the newly inaugurated society and others is professionalism.
Speaking on the theme, ‘The nexus between Broadcasting, Professionalism and Sustainability’, Professor Adeyemo appealed to Broadcast practitioners to get able mentors while urging the Veterans to always be ready to mentor the young ones.
Earlier, the former Ambassador to the Philipines and the Kingdom of Cambodia, Ambassador Yemi Faroumbi, who is the Chief Host said the Society was born out of the need to sanitize and standardize the Broadcast industry and profession, such that a non-professional will find it difficult to practice Broadcasting as it exists in other professions.
Also speaking at the epoch-making occasion, the state Commissioner for Information and Orientation, Dr Dotun Oyelade who commended the leadership of SNB, urged them to keep up the work of separating the wheat from the chaff within the profession.
In his goodwill message on the occasion, the Zonal Director, the Nigerian Broadcasting Commission, Ibadan Zone, Mr Festus Omoge, assured Broadcasters of the regulatory body’s support in their quest to maintain professionalism at all times.
The Chief Press Secretary to Governor Seyi Makinde, Pastor Sulaimon Olanrewaju expressed joy at what he described as the introduction of a sense of orderliness into the Broadcasting profession.
The event was attended by dignitaries and popular media gurus like Mrs. Bolatito Joseph, Reverend Niyi Dahunsi, Mr. Yomi Davies, Mrs. Adebisi Ogunjimi Michael-Sholeye, Mr. Segun Michael Sholeye, Mr Edmund Obilo, Mr Yanju Adegbite, Mr Sam Awodele, Mr. Yemi Sonde, Mr Lere Shitu, Mr Samuel Afouda, Mr Aanuoluwapo Omorinde, Pastor Segun Ogungbayi, Mr Yinka Agboola, Alhaji Oriyomi Hamzat, the Royal Father of the day Oba Sefiu Olawale Oyebola, Ajirotutu 1, the Aseyin of Iseyinland, among others.
