Old girls commission legacy projects as FGGC Oyo celebrates 50th Anniversary

Ibadan – It was all fun and pageantry, as the Federal Government Girls College Oyo, marked her 50th Anniversary at the weekend.

The week-long event culminated into an anniversary lecture on Saturday where various Speakers took time to pay glowing tributes to the resilience of the College and the quality of its Old girls.

The Guest Lecturer, who is a former Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Lagos State, Mr Olasupo Sasore commended the visionary leadership that established Unity Schools whose aim was to foster unity among Nigerian Children.

He however called for a Public Private Partnership initiative to further enhance the quality of the unity schools across the country.

The President, FGGC Oyo Old Girls Association, Professir Ayodele Atsenuwa describes the 50th anniversary as a milestone journey, saying the school has impacted positively on many Nigerian girls right from its exemption.

Representing the Minister of state for Education, Dr Yunus Sununnu, the Provost, Federal College of Education (Special) Oyo Dr Ademola Salami lauded the efforts of the government in ensuring that the purpose of establishing unity schools is upheld as evident in the quality of students being churned out while congratulating the teachers and students of FGGC Oyo on the occasion.

The event witnessed the commissioning of legacy projects in the school such as the newly renovated library, newly installed solar lights for the classrooms and the library, batteries and inverters for the classrooms and solar powered borehole for the hostel area, among others.

The Chairperson, 50th Anniversary Planning Committee, Ayodeji Ikotun expressed gratitude to the old girls while also calling for more contributions towards the development of the alma mata.
