Abuja – President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has ended his extended stay in Europe and departed Paris, France, for Nigeria after spending about a month outside the country.
The President had initially left Abuja on August 30 for his annual leave, with his return earlier expected after 21 days, but his trip was subsequently extended.
Tinubu’s departure from Paris was confirmed on Tuesday by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, who said the President was returning home after completing his engagements in Europe.
Onanuga disclosed that the presidential aircraft was expected to land at the Murtala Muhammed Airport, Lagos, later on Tuesday.
He said Tinubu chose Lagos as his first destination in Nigeria to honour the memory of the late Chief MKO Abiola, whom he described in the statement as a martyr of the country’s democratic struggle.
The President’s prolonged absence had generated public discussion, with opposition parties calling for explanations over the duration of his stay outside the country.
Tinubu had originally been expected to return after the 21-day holiday, but his homecoming was postponed on at least two occasions.
His arrival in Lagos is expected to mark the end of the President’s extended European trip, with further official activities to follow after his return to the country.
