The empowerment is coming after the beneficiaries have undergone training in different categories of work during the week.

While speaking at the empowerment program held on Saturday in Ibadan, the Oyo state capital, the lawmaker said the reason for the empowerment was to reduce the unemployment rate, social vices in his constituency and to add value to the standard of living of people adding that the gesture was part of his efforts to fulfill his campaign promises.

He called on all beneficiaries to make judicious use of the items while assuring that more youths and women will benefit.

His words: “The aim of empowering our people is born out of the need to reduce unemployment and social vices in our constituency and to add value to the living standard of our people.

“This gesture is part of efforts to fulfill my campaign promises of providing employment opportunities for youth and women.

“I call on all beneficiaries today to make good use of the items. I assure you that many more youth and women will continue to benefit from these interventions.

“I will thrive to do my best to provide the dividends of democracy to you. I thank you for coming and God bless you all.”

Some of the items distributed included tricycles, motorcycles, laptops, POS machines with umbrellas; table and startup funds, freezers, generating sets, cash empowerment, and others.

Present at the empowerment program were Chief Bayo Lawal, Commissioner for Local government and Chieftaincy matters, Hon Adeyinka Adeniyi Kasim aka Bibire as Special Adviser to Governor on Local Government Matters, Honorable Dare Adeleke, Chairman of the Oyo Pacesetters Transport Company, Honorable Sola Owolabi, lawmaker representing, Ibadan North East II Constituency, Hon Segun Popoola, lawmaker representing Ibadan South East 2, Honorable Akeem Olatunji, PDP Publicity Secretary, and others.

Meanwhile, a chieftain of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) and Executive Chairman of the Oyo Pacesetters Transport Company, Mr. Dare Adeleke has said that the lawmaker representing Ibadan North East / Ibadan South East Federal Constituency, Honourable Abass Adigun Agboworin deserves a second term.

Adeleke, a former youth leader of the People’s Democratic Party, PDP made this declaration at the empowerment program of the lawmaker in Ibadan on Saturday.

Adeleke said he hasn’t seen a federal lawmaker like Agboworin before adding that he will support him for a second term.

He expressed the hope that other lawmakers will emulate the good work Agboworin is doing.

His words: “Those at my right-hand side are beneficiaries, those are the people Honourable Agboworin wants to empower. Are they not more than the other people gathered here today. He wants to empower about 800 people in this country. I want to say thank you to Honourable Agboworin. I want to say you are the best among equals. I haven’t seen such an Honorable like you before.

“I happened to be the first secretary of the PDP, the first Youth Leader since the inception of the party, and the first zonal youth leader. I have never seen something like this in my life. As a matter of fact, I have sponsored so many people into offices and I have held several offices in my life. If someone says he’s going to empower people here, If not that the person has fear of God, the money to be spent to empower these people, if he puts them in his pocket, people will call him a billionaire. Poverty cannot touch the person and his family again. But because he loves his constituents, that’s why he’s doing all these. If you estimate the cost of tricycle, motorcycle and other things here. It will be in the history of this constituency that you have done well.

I’m thanking you on behalf of the leaders of Ibadan South East Local Government and our leader in Oyo state and Southwest, Engineer Oluseyi Makinde for a job well-done, for being yourself, and for having the attributes of a leader that you are exhibiting in our local government. I pray and hope that other Reps members and House of Assembly members will emulate what Honorable Agboworin is doing.

“I declare that Honorable Agboworin deserves a second term. I, Honorable Dare Adeleke will support Honourable Agboworin for a second term.”

Similarly, Alhaji Abass Oloko, a prominent Mogaji in Ibadan has said that he won’t support anyone to obtain form and contest against the lawmaker representing Ibadan North East / Ibadan South East Federal Constituency, Honourable Abass Adigun Agboworin.

Oloko, who is the vice-chairman of Oyo State Tourism, Arts and Culture Board said the lawmaker deserves to be re-elected for a second term.

He said this at the Empowerment Program of the lawmaker in Ibadan on Saturday.

He said whoever wants to contest for the House of Representatives seat in the constituency should calm down and allow Agboworin complete his second term.

His words: “We aren’t new in politics. God has put us there sincere. You can have degree, Ph.D others but you don’t need to be educated to be a landlord, someone that has built a house is regarded as landlord. We have been in politics since the 1960. I haven’t seen someone that’s humble as this and who didn’t hide himself.

“What I want to say is I won’t support anyone who will obtain form to contest with Honourble Agboworin. We want continuation of this. He’s not a House of Representatives member that will runway. I haven’t seen him wear Agbada before. Whoever wants to contest in our place or elsewhere should go and sit-down somewhere.

“The Governor is doing well. If we now see someone beside him complementing his efforts, we must support him. When APC was in government, did you see anything like this?

“Nobody should come to me that he wants to contest against Agboworin. People I want to respect are people I talk to. He’s not enjoying the goodwill of his father. His father wasn’t a politician not to talk of him enjoying his goodwill. He did his own without spoiling his father’s name.

“Whoever wants to contest should go and calm down and allow him to complete his tenure.”
