Ibadan – The late former Governor of Oyo State Senator Abiola Ajimobi has been commended for the quality in the public infrastructure delivery by his administration.
Quantity Surveyor Samuel Olaniyan said the administration of the late Governor did not compromise on quality in the construction of road projects carried out by his administration.
According to him, the present administration led by Engineer Seyi Makinde is also delivering in terms of quality and durability.
QS Olaniyan however believes that though the administration of late former Governor Adebayo Alao-Akala had all the opportunities to deliver quality infrastructure, there were a lot of compromises on quality.
QS Olaniyan, a fellow of the NIS was speaking on The Landlords (The Radio Edition), a production of Metropolitan Ideas, on Thursday.
Olaniyan who stressed the importance in engaging the services of a Quantity Surveyor at the beginning of every building project said the benefits outweigh the cost.
A Quantity Surveyor, he explained, is saddled with the responsibility of determining the cost of the project and tailoring the design to fit the available funds.
‘We are Quasi Lawyers who maintain balance between the contractor and the client. We ensure that no one is cheated’, he explained.
On the status of the services of Quantity Surveyors, Olaniyan revealed that just like those of Architects and Engineers, a Quantity Surveyor’s services will soon become statutory as efforts are ongoing to achieve this.
He said when it becomes a law, the bill of quantities will be required as part of documents submitted for the approval of some buildings.
