…when I was in service in the U.S, if you receive a congratulatory certificate, you will be motivated

Ibadan – Lawmaker representing Ibadan North East/Ibadan South East in the federal House of Representatives, Agboworin, has advocated offering of awards to honour outstanding individuals in the security agencies, with a view to boosting their morale.

Agboworin’s submission followed the adoption of a motion moved by Rep. Babajimi Benson, who is the Chairman, House Committee on Defence, bothering on improved welfare package for the security agencies.

Rep. Benson, speaking on the motion, equally commended the bravery, dedication and sacrifices of the Nigerian Army, Nigerian Navy and Nigerian Air Force in safeguarding national unity and promoting global peace.

Agboworin, while proposing an amendment to the House, emphasized that due recognition of outstanding officers would motivate them to continue to perform their duties with distinction.

Agboworin, who is the current Chairman, House Committee on Narcotic Drugs, stressed that while improved welfare package for security personnel is essential, acknowledging their efforts through awards would have a more significant impact on their morale.

The two term lawmaker further noted that the gesture would equally demonstrate appreciation for their sacrifices and encourage them to continue serving the nation with dedication and excellence.

He explained that the initiative would acknowledge the contributions of the security personnel who risk their lives to protect the country.

“I want to make an amendment to the prayer of Rep. Jimi Benson. Speaking from experience, I know that the welfare of our security agencies is important because I have always been talking about it too. But there is another thing that is also important apart from providing welfare packages for them.

“I want to appeal to the House, because when I was in service in the U.S, if you receive a congratulatory certificate, you will be motivated.

“For example, if the House of Representatives gives the best officer of the year award to officers in the Army, Navy, Air Force, sometimes, it is more important to them because they believe it is a recognition of something important they are doing for their country.

“So, I plead this is considered as Prayer No. 2 because this will motivate them to go out there and do their best for their country,” Agboworin stated.

The House adopted the prayer and, therefore, urged the Federal Government to increase funding, modernize equipment and enhance welfare packages for the Armed Forces to ensure continued success in their vital mission.
