Ibadan – President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved the appointment of Dr Olugbemisola Titilayo Odusote as the Director-General of the Nigerian Law School, marking a historic first for the institution.
According to a statement by the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, the appointment, which takes effect from January 10, 2026, is for a four-year term.
Odusote, 54, is the Deputy Director-General and Head of the Lagos Campus of the Law School.
With her elevation, she becomes the first woman to lead the institution since its establishment in 1962.
She will take over from Professor Isa Hayatu Chiroma, whose tenure expires on January 9, 2026, after eight years of service.
Announcing the appointment, the statement said the President “approved the appointment of Dr Olugbemisola Titilayo Odusote as the director-general of the Nigerian Law School,” adding that her emergence “will mark a historic milestone for the institution.”
Replacement of FIRS with NRS will overhaul revenue administration – Adedeji
Nigeria Revenue Service (NRS) says its replacement with the defunct Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS) will overhaul the architecture of the country’s revenue administration.
The Executive Chairman of NRS, Dr Zacch Adedeji, said this in a television interview monitored from Abuja.
The provision of the recently enacted tax reform laws changes the nomenclature of the country’s apex tax authority from FIRS to NRS.
According to Adedeji, NRS is not branding. It is a total institutional upgrade moving from fragmented revenue administration to a modern, digitalised, centralised and intelligence-driven system.
He said that under the new framework, multiple tax and revenue-related functions previously spread across agencies have been consolidated, with a stronger emphasis on data integration, automation, and reduced human discretion.
He dismissed allegations that the country’s newly enacted tax reform laws were altered after passage by the National Assembly.
2027: No aspirant will step down in ADC – Atiku
Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has declared that no 2027 presidential aspirant will step down in the African Democratic Congress presidential race, adding that all aspirants will present themselves freely.
Atiku, in a statement released on Tuesday by his media adviser, Paul Ibe, called on Nigerians to resist efforts by the All Progressives Congress to intimidate and weaken the opposition.
The former Vice President’s comments came amid speculation that he is facing pressure to step aside for a Southern candidate to emerge as the ADC’s flagbearer in the upcoming election against President Bola Tinubu.
Atiku added that if anyone should step down, it is President Bola Tinubu, whose leadership he described as a growing national liability.
2027: No agreement yet on presidential candidate — ADC
The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has dismissed speculations that it has settled for a presidential candidate ahead of the 2027 general elections, insisting that no discussion or agreement has been reached on who will fly the party’s flag.
Speaking on Politics Today, a programme on Channels Television, the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Bolaji Abdullahi, said the recent influx of politicians into the ADC should not be misconstrued as evidence of a predetermined arrangement on the party’s presidential ticket.
According to Abdullahi, the developments within the ADC are normal for a political party positioning itself for future elections, particularly after the announcement of a broad coalition.
Fubara: Mistakes of 2023 will not be repeated in 2027 – Wike Vows
Amid renewed conflict between him and Rivers State governor Sim Fubara, Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, Nyesom Wike, has vowed that mistakes made in the 2023 elections will not be repeated in 2027.
Wike made the vow while speaking during a visit to Akuku-Toru and Degema Local Government Areas on Tuesday.
He emphasized the importance of acknowledging past errors and taking corrective action.
Tho comes after the minister declared “total support” for President Bola Tinubu, even as tensions brew between him and leaders of the All Progressives Congress, APC.
2027: Jonathan pledged active role in PDP, says Turaki
Former President Goodluck Jonathan has pledged to take a more active role in the activities and affairs of the Peoples Democratic Party ahead of the 2027 general elections, according to the party’s National Chairman, Tanimu Turaki (SAN).
Turaki disclosed this while addressing journalists after a closed-door meeting with the former President in Abuja on Tuesday.
Turaki arrived at Jonathan’s Maitama office alongside the entire National Working Committee, former governors, founding fathers, and a few selected state chairmen at about 5:45 pm in six SUVs.
The meeting lasted about one hour and 30 minutes.
US military killed 55 Venezuelan, Cuban soldiers in Maduro capture — Report
United States forces killed at least 55 Venezuelan and Cuban military personnel during the operation that led to the capture of ousted Venezuelan president Nicolas Maduro, according to official tolls released by Caracas and Havana on Tuesday.
Venezuela’s military, confirming its losses for the first time, said 23 service members were killed in Saturday’s United States attacks that resulted in Maduro’s removal from power, while authorities have yet to release figures for civilian casualties.
Cuba also confirmed the deaths of 32 members of its armed forces and interior ministry security personnel deployed to Caracas, adding to earlier reports of losses suffered during the raids.
