Ibadan–A Chieftain of the All Progressives Congress, Oyo State, Akeem Agbaje Esq, has expressed support for the fiscal policies of the Federal government led by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
In an exclusive chat with Ametrocopy, the legal luminary believes a good policy framework helps a government from repeating past mistakes noting that ‘policies are critical in achieving a government’s set goals’.
According to him, the Tax reform Bills will address a number of anomalies in the nation’s tax system which he described as ‘too cumbersome’.
He urged people to study the content of the Bills and understand the policies of the government which he said are yielding some results already.
‘Now petrol is under N1,000, it was around N1,000 and N1,200 at a time. No one is saying it will come to 600 naira but there will be stability’, he said.
‘In the foreign exchange market, what people don’t notice is that there’s a band of 100, 200 naira. It hovers between that band. It’s still stability. I know that for the next 6 months, the dollar will not be more than maximum N1,700. If it gets to N1,900, they know they have to bring it back, it’s operating within a band’.
Speaking on the rumoured introduction of Sharia Law in the Southwestern part of the country, Agbaje said nothing can become a law without the state assembly introducing it and the Governor assenting to it.
‘When they say something is a law, it can only be introduced by the state Assembly and can only become law if signed by the Governor and none of these has happened and none has been suggested to be in the offing’
On Oyo Politics ahead of the 2027 election, Agbaje, who is a strong gubernatorial aspirant stressed the need for the APC in Oyo State to unite.
‘Most people understand the need for unity in the party though there are probably one or two people who believe it must be their way’, he said.
Agbaje who noted he had always been one to align with the party’s decisions expressed his preference for ‘reasonability’ as against ‘fairness’ in the process to determine the party’s flag bearer in the coming elections, adding that ‘we win together and we lose together’.
