Ibadan – The Chairman, Nigerian Institute of Building, Oyo State Chapter, Bldr Femi Adeyi MNIOB, has urged all stakeholders in the built industry to rise to the challenge of shaping an environment that is safe and sustainable.
Bldr Adeyi made the call in his inaugural speech shortly after the Investiture of the new executives, at the 2025 Oluyole Professional Workshop and Investiture of Chairman organized by The Nigerian Institute of Building, Oyo State Chapter.
He said Builders do not only build structures but communities and the future.
‘As professionals, our duty is not only to construct buildings, but to build trust, uphold standards, and safeguard the lives of the people who use the spaces we create’, he stressed.
Earlier, in his Keynote Address, the Lagos State Commissioner for Physical Planning and Urban Development, Bldr Dr Olayinka Olumide, MNIOB, decried sharp practices by professionals at every level of construction. This according to him is a major cause in the rising spate of building collapse across the country.
Bldr Olumide challenged the public to serve as watchdogs by reporting suspected infractions in any structure around them.
‘In Lagos, if you see any structure under construction and you notice that something is wrong, you can pick your phone and report and actions will be taken immediately’, he noted.
The Governor of Oyo state, Engr Seyi Makinde, who was represented by the Commissioner for Physical Works, Infrastructure and Transport, AbdulMojeed Mogbonjubola, commended the efforts of the institute at ensuring standard practices are upheld while also calling for continued collaboration with the Government in ensuring the safety of buildings.
Bldr F. Olugbade MNIOB was sworn in as the Vice Chairman while Bldr S. Adefisoye MNIOB is the new Honorary Secretary. The Financial Secretary is Bldr K. Aderogba MNIOB, the Treasurer is Bldr D. Abodunde MNIOB, and the Assistant Honorary Secretary is Bldr O. Okegbola MNIOB.
Bldr O. Fabunmi MNIOB is the Publicity Secretary while Bldr J. Aremu MNIOB is an Ex Officio II.
The immediate past Chairman is Bldr H. Olaniran FNIOB.
The theme for this year’s ceremony is ‘Up Scaling Professional Practice and Governance in Real Estate Development in Oyo State’ and it featured presentation of Awards to distinguished individuals among whom was the Royal Father of the Day, Oba Bldr Adewole Adedire MNIOB, the Onifegunwa of Ifegunwa Kingdom.
