Ibadan – The Deputy Governor of Bayelsa State, Senator Lawrence Oborawharievwo Ewhrudjakpo, died on Thursday after collapsing in his office.
The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), who confirmed the death in a in a press release on Thursday, described the development as a shocking and painful loss. According to a statement signed by Comrade Ini Ememobong, National Publicity Secretary of the PDP, the party said the news threw its National Working Committee, led by Kabiru Tanimu Turaki, SAN, into deep grief, along with members across the country, particularly in Bayelsa State.
The statement stressed that Senator Ewhrudjakpo was known for honesty, consistency, and principled politics. He was portrayed as a leader guided by conviction, integrity, and strong personal character, values he upheld until his final moments.
Nigerian soldiers still in Burkina Faso after forced aircraft landing – Foreign Affairs Minister
The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Yusuf Tuggar, says the Nigerian soldiers who were on an aircraft that made a forced landing in Burkina Faso are still in trapped in that country.
Tuggar made this disclosure during a press briefing with his Beninese counterpart, Olushegun Bakari, on Thursday at the ECOWAS Commission in Abuja.
Recall that on Monday, the Confederation of Sahel States (AES) accused an aircraft carrying 11 Nigerian soldiers of violating Burkinabe airspace.
Insecurity: FG approves 94,000 new enlistments
The Federal Government will recruit over 94,000 new personnel into Nigeria’s security services as part of measures to tackle rising insecurity across the country.
Under the plan, the Police Service Commission and the Nigeria Police Force will recruit 50,000 police constables.
The recruitment portal is expected to be open to eligible Nigerians from December 15, 2025, to January 25, 2026.
In a statement on Thursday by the Head of Protocol and Public Affairs, Torty Kalu, the Commission said the recruitment portal would open to eligible Nigerians from December 15, 2025, to January 25, 2026.
Senate clears Fani-Kayode, Omokri, Ikpeazu, ex-INEC chair, others for ambassadorial positions
The Senate Committee on Foreign Affairs on Thursday approved the nomination of former Minister of Aviation, Femi Fani-Kayode, for appointment as ambassador.
Other nominees cleared by the committee include former Minister of Interior Abdulrahman Dambazau, ex-special adviser on new media to former President Goodluck Jonathan, Reno Omokri, former presidential aide, Senator Ita Enang, and Senator Grace Bent.
Also confirmed were former INEC Chairman Mahmood Yakubu, former Governor of Enugu State Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi, and former Governor of Abia State Victor Okezie Ikpeazu, among others.
The screening session, conducted in batches of five nominees each, experienced a mild drama during Omokri’s turn.

Reps probe NNPC Pension Fund, issue three-month ultimatum for payment of retirees
The House of Representatives on Thursday unveiled plans to investigate the operational activities of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) Pension Fund Limited, with a view to developing a comprehensive framework to improve pension administration within the corporation.
The proposed investigation, to be conducted by the House Committee on Pensions, followed the adoption of a motion on the need to review the operational activities of the NNPC Pension Fund Limited, sponsored by Hon. Muhammad Shehu.
According to the resolution, the House mandated the Committee on Pensions to recommend sanctions where evidence of negligence, fraud, or misappropriation is established, and to report back within four weeks for further legislative action.
Ngige to be arraigned Friday as EFCC files charge
The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, has filed an eight-count charge against the former Minister of Labour and Productivity, Chris Ngige.
The charge reports revealed that the former Anambra State governor will be arraigned on Friday at the FCT High Court in Gwarimpa, Abuja.
According to the charge dated 31 October and filed by Senior Advocate of Nigeria Sylvanus Tahir and five other lawyers on behalf of the EFCC, the anti-graft agency alleged that Ngige used his position as a former minister to confer undue advantage by awarding different contracts to his associates and to companies believed to be owned by him.
Fubara pushing Rivers towards fresh crisis, says Speaker
The Speaker of the Rivers State House of Assembly, Martin Amaewhule, has accused Governor Siminalayi Fubara of deliberately sidelining lawmakers and “setting the stage for another crisis” in the state.
Amaewhule, flanked by 10 lawmakers, addressed reporters in Port Harcourt on Thursday in response to Fubara’s Wednesday comments.
The governor had lamented that his political benefactor, Nyesom Wike, had yet to fulfil his promise to convene a meeting between him and the Wike-aligned lawmakers.
Fubara, during a project inauguration on Wednesday, said he was committed to peace and willing to meet all demands of the lawmakers loyal to the FCT Minister.
Reacting, Amaewhule accused the governor of lying, sidelining the Assembly, and being “reactionary,” citing the state of education as an example.
According to him, contrary to Fubara’s claims, Wike had convened several meetings in Abuja and Port Harcourt where the governor and lawmakers were physically present.
