Ibadan – The Federal Government has announced a ban on the admission and transfer of students into Senior Secondary School 3 in both public and private secondary schools in Nigeria.
The directive was issued by the Federal Ministry of Education on Sunday and signed by the Director of Press and Public Relations, Folasade Boriowo.
Boriowo explained that the decision was prompted by “growing concerns over the increasing incidence of examination malpractice, including the use of so-called special centres during external examinations.”
The statement added that such practices “undermine the integrity and credibility of Nigeria’s education system.”
According to the ministry, the directive will take effect from the 2026/2027 academic session. Admissions and transfers are now restricted to SS1 and SS2 classes.
Reps move to reduce time for election litigations, set Tuesday for consideration of bill
The new Electoral Act has proposed a reduction in the period for election petition from 180 days to 150 days, while foreclosing agitations that election petitions be disposed off before swearing in of elected officials.
The new law which is scheduled to be considered by the House of Representatives at plenary on Tuesday also suggests that election petitions be filed 21 days after the declaration not election results, while judgement is to be delivered 150 days to the date of filing the petition.
It also move to prevent frivolous petitions by imposing heavy fine on counsel and their clients who challenges the outcome of elections outside the stipulated ground for challenging election results.

Corruption: FG developing AI platform targeting hidden wealth, asset verification — CCB chairman
The Federal Government is currently developing an advanced Artificial Intelligence (AI) platform aimed at combating corruption by instantly verifying the assets of public servants and flagging unexplained wealth.
Chairman of the Code of Conduct Bureau (CCB), Dr. Abubakar Bello, revealed that the Bureau is at an advanced stage of developing a fully online asset declaration platform, expected to be ready by the first quarter of 2026.
According to him in an interview with News Agency of Nigeria on Sunday, the AI platform will allow public servants to declare their assets from anywhere in the world, replacing the manual system which only addressed the problem of availability, not deep verification.
My jurisdiction limited to Ibadan LGs, says Olubadan
The Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Rashidi Adewolu Ladoja, has declared that his jurisdiction does not extend beyond the 11 local government councils of Oyo State and the about four million people residing there, as clearly stipulated in the Oyo State Chiefs Law and the Ibadan Chieftaincy Declaration.
Oba Ladoja stated this on Sunday while speaking at a coronation luncheon organised by the Ibadan Foundation to celebrate his ascension to the throne at Kakanfo Hotel, Ibadan.
The first-class monarch said he had enormous responsibilities within his domain and would not be distracted by issues outside his jurisdiction.
INEC disowns factional Accord Party gov primary in Osun
The Independent National Electoral Commission in Osun State has said it was not informed of another primary reportedly conducted by a faction of the Accord Party in the state.
A faction of the Accord Party in Osun on Sunday reportedly held a primary election that produced Bamigbola Clement as its candidate for the August 8, 2026, governorship poll.
The exercise, held in Osogbo, the state capital, began with the accreditation of delegates.
A large contingent of armed police operatives was also observed around the venue.
However, INEC’s Public Relations Officer in the state, Musa Olurode, said the commission was unaware of the parallel exercise.
FG trying to destroy multi-party democracy – Opposition leaders
A coalition of prominent opposition leaders has alleged that the Federal Government is using anti-corruption agencies to intimidate and persecute opposition figures, warning that such actions could undermine multi-party democracy in the country.
In a joint statement on Sunday, the coalition accused the administration of President Bola Tinubu of weaponising state institutions—particularly the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, the Nigeria Police, and the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission—to target political opponents under the guise of fighting corruption.
11 survive private plane crash in Kano
Three crew members and eight passengers survived a private plane crash landing at the Aminu Kano International Airport, Kano, on Sunday.
The incident involved a Hawker 800XP aircraft marked 5N-ISB.
The Nigerian Safety Investigation Bureau (NSIB) is investigating the incident.
Peller crashes car during livestream, sparks public concern
Popular TikTok content creator and livestreamer, Hamzat Habeeb, widely known as Peller, has sparked outrage and concern after crashing his car during a live broadcast on Lekki-Epe Expressway in Lagos.
The incident, which occurred during a livestream on Instagram he titled “RIP Peller” on Sunday, that has since circulated widely on social media, showed the influencer driving alone in his newly acquired Mercedes-Benz while visibly distressed.
In the video, Peller was seen crying and speaking emotionally during a phone conversation believed to be with his girlfriend, Jarvis, amid rumours of a possible breakup.
At several points in the livestream, he appeared agitated and made alarming statements, saying, “I will use this car and have an accident right now,” and later, “I’m scared. I’m scared.”
The incident has triggered widespread reactions across social media, with many users expressing concern over the act and calling on authorities to intervene.
Several netizens urged the Federal Road Safety Corps to investigate the incident, noting that the action endangered not only the content creator’s life but also other road users.
While some viewers claimed the incident may have been staged for content, others insisted there should be consequences for what they described as reckless and dangerous behaviour during a live broadcast.
