Ibadan – Nigeria’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Yusuf Maitama Tuggar, has said the recent United States airstrikes on terrorist targets in north-western Nigeria were carried out with Nigeria’s full cooperation, approval and intelligence support, stressing that the operation neither violated the country’s sovereignty nor targeted any religious group.
Speaking on Channels Television’s Sunrise Daily on Friday on the nature of Nigeria’s involvement, Tuggar said the government has remained consistent in working with all partners committed to the fight against terrorism, regardless of religion or geography.
He described the strikes as the outcome of long-standing security cooperation between Abuja and Washington, adding that Nigeria provided the intelligence that informed the operation.
The foreign minister disclosed that he held direct talks with US Secretary of State Marco Rubio ahead of the strikes and subsequently briefed President Bola Tinubu before approval was granted.
Trump threatens further strikes if ISIS attack persists
United States President Donald Trump has warned that American forces will carry out additional military strikes if Islamic State (ISIS) terrorists continue attacks against Christians in Nigeria.
Trump said he personally authorised recent airstrikes against ISIS fighters operating in Nigeria’s North-West, describing the operation as decisive and deadly.
The U.S. president made the disclosure on Thursday via his Truth Social account, where he confirmed that American forces launched what he called “numerous perfect strikes” on ISIS elements in the region.
Sheikh Gumi criticises US airstrikes in Nigeria, calls for alternative partners
Islamic cleric Sheikh Ahmad Gumi has criticised the United States’ recent airstrikes on terrorist camps in north-western Nigeria.
He described the attacks as potentially polarising and detrimental to national sovereignty.
This comes after US President Donald Trump’s announcement that US forces carried out “numerous deadly strikes” in north-western Nigeria.
According to Trump, the strikes were aimed at Islamic State terrorists targeting Christians, and the Federal Government’s confirmation of ongoing security and intelligence cooperation with the US.
New tax reforms begin January 1 – Taiwo Oyedele
The chairman of the Presidential Fiscal Policy and Tax Reforms Committee, Taiwo Oyedele, has reaffirmed that the implementation of the new tax reforms will commence on January 1, 2026.
Oyedele assured that the reforms under the new tax laws are intended to provide relief to Nigerians and stimulate economic growth.
He disclosed this while addressing journalists following the visit of the National Tax Policy Implementation Committee, NTPIC, chaired by Joseph Tegbe, to President Bola Tinubu at his residence in Lagos.
Alteration claims: N’Assembly to re-gazzette tax laws, says Reps spokesperson
The National Assembly has directed its Clerk to re-gazette the nation’s tax laws and issue Certified True Copies of the versions passed by the Senate and the House of Representatives, following allegations of alterations to the laws.
The decision was disclosed in a statement released on Friday in Abuja by the House of Representatives spokesman, Akin Rotimi.
It was reported that two weeks ago, a lawmaker from Sokoto State, Abdussamad Dasuki, raised the alarm during plenary that the tax reform Acts passed by the parliament differed materially from copies in circulation at the Federal Ministry of Information and National Orientation.
Dasuki warned that the alleged alterations posed serious legal and constitutional risks, noting that they were not backed by any constitutional framework and could threaten Nigeria’s democratic order.
Makinde has destroyed PDP in South-West – Fayose
Former Ekiti State Governor Ayodele Fayose has accused Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde of abusing power and weakening the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, across the South-West.
Speaking in an interview on TVC monitored by DAILY POST, Fayose alleged that Makinde “took over all the choice lands in the state,” and had alienated many of those who supported his emergence.
According to him, “almost everybody who worked for his ascension has been driven away”.
He further accused Makinde of dismantling the party’s structure in the region, stating, “Makinde has destroyed all PDP structures in the South-West.”
Fayose also questioned the credibility of the party’s process in Osun State, alleging that “a candidate who did not even obtain a PDP form eventually became the candidate.”

Three Escape Death as fire breaks out in three different locations in Oyo State
Three persons narrowly escaped as fire gutted residential buildings at Amosun Compound, Aremo and Ajibade area, Mokola in Ibadan North-East local government and Ibadan North local government areas of Oyo State respectively, on Friday.
