IBADAN – Suspected bandits on Tuesday night attacked the National Park Service (NPS) office in Oloka, Orire Local Government Area of Oyo State, leaving five personnel feared dead and others critically injured.
The attack reportedly occurred at about 9:00 p.m. on Tuesday, January 6, 2026. Preliminary reports indicate that at least five personnel of the National Park Service were affected during the assault.
An eyewitness resident of Orire Local Government Area, who spoke to newsmen on condition of anonymity, said armed men stormed the facility and attacked officers on duty, confirming that four personnel were killed while another sustained serious injuries and is currently receiving treatment.
Confirming the incident, the Oyo State Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), DSP Ayanlade Olayinka, said the attack was carried out by yet-to-be-identified armed men against personnel of the National Park Service.
“Yes, there was an attack by yet-to-be-identified men against the men of the National Park.
“The Commissioner of Police, Oyo State Police Command, and other service chiefs are currently on their way to the location.”
“Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Police, CP Femi Haruna, has deployed tactical teams, Mobile Police Force officers, and the Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) unit to the affected area to prevent further breakdown of law and order,” he said.
DSP Olayinka added that the deployment was aimed at restoring calm, securing the area, and ensuring the safety of lives and property.
The police spokesperson urged residents of the area to remain calm and cooperate with security agencies as investigations continue to track down the perpetrators of the attack
